Overview

The position of Controller works with a team of high performing professionals and ensures that our company finances are compiled, managed, and reported according to GAAP principals on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis. The role requires a seasoned professional who understands current accounting practices and trends for professional services firms, but also has experience adapting to change and growth. The ideal Controller has technical accounting skills and is capable of overseeing and directing other accounting staff team members. The role reports to a member of the leadership team.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities of the Controller position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Hands on participation in daily operations of all accounting functions including labor collection (time keeping), invoicing, expense accounting, sales tax, accounts payable, and accounts receivable

  • Oversee the timely preparation of monthly financial statements and ensure their accuracy

  • Daily cash management

  • Establish and maintain systems and controls that verify the integrity of accounting systems, processes, and data

  • Process payroll, maintain payroll records, ensure compliance with payroll and tax

  • Recommend and implement accounting process improvements

  • Manage accounting staff member(s)

  • Coordinate accounting functions with the HR Manager

  • Interact with CPA firm during the year and at tax return preparation time

  • Assist with financial modeling as requested

  • Miscellaneous office management duties

  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8 years of general accounting experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting or related field or equivalent work experience

  • Minimum of 3 years accounting supervisory experience as a controller or assistant controller

  • Experience processing payroll and employee benefits administration

  • Experience with tracking and processing multi-jurisdiction sales tax reports

  • Thorough knowledge of accounting policies, procedures, and processes

  • Exceptional time management, problem solving, and organizational skills

  • Strong management and leadership skills

  • Clear and concise communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills including especially Excel, Word, and Outlook 

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or CMA are a plus

  • Experience with QuickBooks

  • Experience with professional services firms

  • Familiarity with EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System)

Location:

  • Genus Technologies is located in downtown Minneapolis, MN. This role is currently in-office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays with the option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. A monthly parking stipend or public transit pass is provided.

Estimate Pay Range:

  • A base salary of $100,000 - $140,000 is the estimated range for this role, based on a good-faith assessment at the time of posting. Actual base compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. An incentive plan based on company performance is also offered. In addition to the base and incentive plan, we offer a comprehensive total rewards package that includes medical and dental coverage options for you and your dependents, a paid time off plan, company-paid life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, short- and long-term disability plans, and a 401(k) plan.
